Description
Greenarium is an innovative virtual educational space designed specifically for primary school pupils and teachers, combining natural science learning with digital engagement. Unlike traditional natural museums, which are often limited by geography and created exclusively by experts for general audiences, Greenarium offers a participatory and inclusive model where educators and pupils actively contribute to the creation of content, exhibitions, and learning activities.
Through its two main components—an Augmented Reality mobile application and an interactive web platform featuring exhibition, education, and entertainment spaces—Greenarium enables pupils to explore indigenous birds, insects, and trees in immersive and meaningful ways. More than a digital museum, Greenarium is a space where nature is seen, heard, taught, learned, and cared for, while promoting environmental awareness, social inclusion, and digital skills development in an engaging and interactive manner.
Objectives
The key objective of Greenarium is to support the teaching and learning of natural sciences, with a focus on selected species of birds, insects, and trees, through the development of two core technological capacities: a multifunctional digital space (web platform) and an Augmented Reality mobile application. The web platform will function as a virtual museum, online classroom, and digital educational playground, while the AR application will provide situated, extracurricular learning experiences by enabling pupils to explore species in their natural habitats. Together with its three pedagogical spaces—the Exhibition Room, Education Room, and Entertainment Room—Greenarium will create an innovative, interactive, and engaging environment for learning about nature.
Implementation
To achieve its objectives, Greenarium will deliver five key results:
Augmented Reality Application – enabling immersive, situated learning experiences in nature.
Online Platform – hosting Greenarium’s virtual museum and its three digital rooms.
Exhibition Room – showcasing indigenous birds, insects, and trees from four European geographies.
Education Room – providing curricular and extracurricular digital learning activities.
Entertainment Room – offering educational games and interactive learning experiences.
